I captured this photo in Seal Beach, California during a huge swell that
pounded the coast for days. News crews and spectators lined the beaches to view
the endless amounts of surfers taking to the water to catch a ride. I took this
toward the end of the day right as the crowds started to die off. I felt lucky
to catch a few seconds to capture this image of the sunset in the hectic
environment but remain to this day to be a favorite of
mine.

We raise our glasses to our friends 31 BITS as they launched their spring line "Chasing Daylight". We spent the evening hanging out and shopping at Madewell at South Coast plaza last night. Well done all around! We had a great time getting to know the store, which by the way is just rad! It is a must to go to!

Over the last few weeks I have gotten to know the wonderful ladies of 31 BITS and I am so encouraged by their business model, their love for people and their hearts to empower individuals. Not only do they have amazing jewelry, which by the way is my jewelry of choice, but they are making dreams possible.

So the our new and amazing friends! Well done!

It’s natural for artists to get in a rut searching for
inspiration. If you feel this way about your photography,
perhaps it’s time to look at things a new way. It doesn’t need to be complicated—in fact, sometimes the
answer is right in front of you.
For me, a bit of inspiration was not only right in front of me, but shared my
apartment as well. My roommate
happened to be very fashion-forward and when I asked if she was interested in
being my model, she jumped at the opportunity! We set out taking photographs wherever we found a location that caught our eye. That day I took a few of my favorite portraits!
There are many ways you can get out of rut—change your typical
scenery, experiment with various gear (break out that old lens you haven’t used
in a while!), explore new themes, or shoot at a different time of day.
You may just surprise yourself!

Fuzzy Death is named appropriately because that was the thought going through
my mind as I was "shooting" this photo. A 300 mm lens does not do you much good
when a 800 pound grizzly bear decides to charge you from 30 feet away. However
when you are seeing life through a lens everything seems less dangerous even
holding a camera makes me feel safer. This photo is proof of how ditzsy
photographers are. Driving through Alaskan Denali state park I spotted this guy
jumped out of the truck grabbed my D200 and ran towards him. I started shooting
as fast as I could inching closer and closer it was perfect he kept getting
bigger and bigger.....I stopped but he did not, great I thought better pictures.
Then that little voice in the back of my head started quietly screaming run run
run, it only got louder when my buddy in the truck stared yelling it to. I
finally took my eye off my lens and drifted back to reality. This reality was
that 30 feet in front of me was a massive grizzly bear and 30 feet behind me was
the truck so I ran and by the time I got to the front of the truck he was at the
back. Not a relaxing experience but as a wildlife photographer with a small
budget its one of the risks one must take. At least there was no harm done he
brushed the back of the truck as I jumped in the passenger seat and I carried on
shooting behind the flimsy steel door of the truck. The only thing worse than
dealing with a bear coming at you I guess is an angery bride, I feel like I
would rather face the bear again.

Photo: Hard Life
I was walking through San Salvador, El Salvador and came across this man
at one of the clinics we were at. Originally it was taken from the side, so I
was only able to capture the left portion of his face. I was ready to take one
more photo and at the same moment he looked right at me. It caught me off guard
but I took the photo anyways and this was the end product. This photo means a
lot to me because I believe that this man in a sense represents my trip to El
Salvador and tells an everlasting story which is why I took the photo to begin
with, to summarize my 12 day experience.

I absolutely love the awe-inspiring geography of Arizona and how different it is from my home in Chicago. This photograph, taken in Sedona, AZ, represents the grandeur of an area characterized by its massive and gorgeous red rock formations. I’ve traveled to Arizona a handful of times and I always love photographing the mountains simply because of their beauty. A place that is sunny most days of the year, it’s surprising how much contrast there is between different photographs. One of my favorite aspects of this particular photograph is the set of large, fluffy clouds that rarely dominate the blue expanse of the Arizona sky.

We where so excited to watch the U.S. Premiere of PROMISED LAND, a film by Walking on Water, and one of our partner charities. This film was incredible. At the end I sat and just waited. What I thought the film reflected most was the love of Christ through his people. Todd you did an amazing job directing the film and we are honored to be running a long side Walking on Water as they love people around the world.

I had the exciting
opportunity to fly in a little prop plane this past summer and take aerial
photos of the Charleston, SC harbor.
At the time, I was interning with a commercial photographer whose
assignment was to take shots of various points along the harbor for survey
purposes. My assignment was to
enjoy the beauty of one of my favorite places from a whole new
perspective-- a real "bird's-eye view."

I always challenge myself to vary the angles and perspective in which I shoot, so this was the ultimate experience to try something new! Sitting in the back seat, it
was difficult to shoot through a grimy window, especially on such a foggy morning, but
the black and white versions turned out pretty neat!

ENLACE (pronounced en-lah-say, the Spanish word for link) has been
equipping churches to transform communities in El Salvador since 1993. El
Salvador is a country full of hardship as well as opportunity. Battered by wars,
earthquakes, and ongoing violence, the people of El Salvador struggle to break
the cycle of poverty. In rural El Salvador, 46% live in dirt floor homes, 23% of
children suffer from chronic malnourishment, 58% lack access to clean water and
63% live on less than $2 per day.
ENLACE responds to these challenges by equipping churches, which are found
in every rural village, to alleviate poverty in their own communities. Over a
10-year period, ENLACE trains and coaches church leaders to work with their
communities to develop sustainable health, infrastructure and community economic
development projects. ENLACE currently works with more than 50 local churches
impacting the daily lives of nearly 50,000 people. ENLACE's vision is to see 100
churches transform the spiritual and physical lives of 250,000 people in El
Salvador by 2015.
